Apollo von Apolda is a very handsome 5 year old shepherd mix. Per his own words, “Hi, my name is Apollo! I am almost all shepherd, except I have the cutest white stripe down my nose. Want to learn Korean? I would love to teach you, since I know all my commands in Korean! They named me after a Greek god and, after a few weeks at Westside, I am starting to feel like one. When I first arrived, I was extremely shut down because I had never lived in a kennel before. After meeting the volunteers at Westside and realizing that there are kind people out there, I have really blossomed; now you will see me walking up and down Hill Street with a happy wag and even a smile on my face. I am a lower-energy dog and everyone says I am amazing on leash (actually, I’ve heard them say that I am amazing in general) because I walk right next to them. I really like when the volunteers take me out on walks -- I even let them kiss and cuddle me -- but I would so love to find a home of my own. When I really come out of my shell, I can be the goofiest guy and make you smile all the time. I enter my playgroups calmly and am comfortable with everyone in there. I am extremely well-socialized around dogs and the kennel staff often use me as a test dog when they are trying to evaluate an ‘iffy’ dog. They say that I am a sweet, tolerant boy, who is extremely obedient. If you think I am cute and like my personality, will you come down and ask to meet me? I can’t wait to sleep on a warm bed sometime soon.
